Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance

Walter Reuther, a long-time member of the NAACP board of directors, mobilized the UAW and other labor organizations into participating in Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 March on Washington, D.C. where Dr. King delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech.

Dear Members of UAW Local 3000I would like to take a moment and wish you and your entire family a safe and blessed holiday season. It is this time of year when we reflect on our past and look forward to the future.I am very proud of our membership by sharing the holiday season by giving to others. Our Community Service Committee started the season off right with their annual "Harvest for Hunger" drive. They collected over $1,070.00 and presented a check to the Community Lutheran Helping Hands Food Bank in Flat Rock. We also pulled together with Region 1A, UAW International and Make-A-Wish Foundation to make a wish come true for Alyssa Erwin. Alyssa is the granddaughter of Eva Erwin, a member at AAI. Alyssa, who has stage four brain cancer, was able to swim with the dolphins as her wish came true.Our AutoAlliance plant along with our Logistics Unit had a "Toys for Tots" drive. They collected over $2,412.00 in donations, and with some wonderful volunteers, took those donations and purchased presents that were donated to the U. S. Marine Corp Toy's for Tot's program. With these acts of kindness, I know you have helped out many families that are not as fortunate as we are. Walter Ruther once said, "There is no greater calling than to help your fellow man".I would like to invite our members to "like" our Facebook page or our web site at www.uaw3000.net. We update these sites weekly with Union Awareness, upcoming events, newsflashes and pictures. We can also promote your business for you that you would like to share with the membership. For example, Dennis Farrell and Nate Tucker of AAI have their own Internet Radio Show at www.fantasysidelineshow.com. They have ad big sport stars on their show like Tony Dorsett, Ken Dilger and Dave Justice. They just hired ex-University of Michigan stars and former NFL players Cato June and Brandon Williams to join their team. You can join their show and talk live with them. You will be able to access their show on our Facebook page, starting next year. Good luck guys and represent Local 3000 and the UAW proudly.I see a bright future for UAW Local 3000. I feel this local will be one of the strongest the UAW has ever seen. Community Service Committee

Working together, UAW Local 3000, and AutoAlliance employees, collected $1,070.35 during their annual drive for Harvest for Hunger in November, 2011.

The Local's Community Service Committee presented the generous contributions to Judith Watkins of Community Lutheran's Helping Hands Food Bank. The donations are used to help downriver area families in need.
